Another Oculus Price Drop!

Hot off the presses! For the 2nd time in a year we see another pretty substantial price drop for the Oculus Rift. Over the next six weeks you’ll be able to get the Oculus headset and motion controller bundle for only $549. The retail price has been cut by $200 but why?

VR experts and early adopters have been speculating that this new drop in price could be at the forefront of another new, updated product from the folks at Oculus. Jason Rubin (VP or Content at Oculus) recently stated that this shift in price was to accommodate consumers that “…may have been sitting on the sideline because of price…” Rubin also stressed that those who run out to buy an Oculus at this lower price point won’t find themselves with obsolete hardware shortly after. He’s confident that the same core functionality will be part of VR for years to come. He continued, “We want to make sure that the VR hardware itself isn’t an expensive part of the equation. So we’re headed toward mass-market pricing.”

You’ll still need a decent gaming PC to successfully run VR over the Oculus but they’ve also lowered their minimum requirements/specifications so more individuals can enjoy the wonders of virtual reality. Also keep in mind if you wish to purchase the Oculus headset or Rift controllers on their own you’ll still be paying the full price. This unique sale only applies to the headset and controller bundle.

We’re very excited about this price drop. The market is set to grow as more and more users opt for a premium VR option.
